Caring for your furniture

All wooden items require regular maintenance to keep them in tip top condition.

Here are a few suggestions to help you and that we use daily.
It seems obvious but it is all too common that the biggest contributor to the deterioration of wooden products is the weather. All to often a lovely bench for example is purchased and put straight out into the elements...

"Well it said that it was suitable for outside use!"

This indeed is true but is often followed by a section describing how you should care for it. This includes how it should be treated, cleaned and stored. We recommend that a good quality 5 year external woodstain is applied prior to use. This should then be allowed to dry before a light sanding of all surfaces to smooth where the grain has raised. Remove any resulting dust and then apply a second coat of stain. This simple process will increase to lifespan greatly!
The next best tip ( and this is rarely done) is to cover your furniture when not in use. Over time water ingress causes wooden joints to weaken as trapped water is heavily affected by temperature. Especially in winter when the temperatures drop the water turns to ice and this expands in the joints and the damage can be severe!
